Mandate
Provide suggestions to City Council regarding appropriate accessibility measures on municipal lands and properties, thereby contributing to improving the quality of life of challenged needs individuals in Dieppe.
Responsibilities
1.Inform City Council of the existing situation regarding accessibility to municipal lands and properties;
2. Provide suggestions on mechanisms that would enhance the public’s, elected officials, city staff, agencies and commissions awareness on accessibility ;
3. Create partnerships and develop and maintain good working relationships with other organizations working towards the same objectives;
4. In cooperation with a staff member, identify the issues, problems and requests on the accessibility of challenged needs individuals and suggest possible solutions and/or opinions on these matters;
5. Identify the programs, activities and initiatives that could improve accessibility to municipal properties;
6. Represent challenged needs individuals who experience difficulties accessing municipal properties;
7. Establish and review on an annual basis a work plan that includes the committee’s priorities and objectives as well as the indicators of success;
8. Study and analyze pertinent issues as requested by City Council;
9. Where appropriate, provide an annual budget request to a City of Dieppe committee member before September 30th of each year;
10. Maintain dialogue with City Council on the committee’s mandate, priorities planning and successes.
Membership of the Committee
The Committee will be composed of ten (10) members:
- four (4) members representing the community
- one (1) member representing the seniors within the community
- one (1) member representing the City Council
- one (1) member representing the City of Dieppe staff (ex-officio)
- one (1) member representing the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work
- one (1) member representing the Canadian Paraplegic Association (CPA)
- one (1) member representing the New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL)
- one (1) member representing the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)
