Become a Volunteer

Are you thinking of getting involved in your community, but you’re not sure how you can help?

The City of Dieppe has created a section allowing citizens to launch research on volunteering possibilities with certified community groups.

What are the steps to follow?

First step:

Answer some questions about your interests.
  • How much time are you willing to volunteer each week, month or year?
  • Are you looking for a short- or a long-term opportunity?
  • Would you prefer to volunteer as part of a team or alone?
  • Do you have any special skills?
  • What are your personal goals?
  • What kind of experience are you looking to get from volunteering?
  • What community stakes are important to you?
  • Do you want to volunteer in your neighbourhood or close to your work?
By answering these questions, you will narrow down your search and be in a better position to be matched with an organization that will meet your needs.

Second step:

Look for opportunities that exist in your municipality.
Once you have found the right organization, make sure you understand the volunteer’s responsibilities and what the organization will expect of you:
  • To be open and honest with regards to your motivation and goals.
  • To understand the work that is offered before accepting it.
  • To perform tasks efficiently and honestly.
  • To accept being guided and supervised by the person responsible for the volunteers.
  • To take part in the training offered by the organization.
  • To respect confidentiality.
  • To express your satisfactions and dissatisfactions to your supervisor regarding your tasks and suggest improvements to him or her.
  • To quickly inform your supervisor when you can’t take part in training.
