Environment Committee

Mandate
Provide suggestions to City Council for the protection, maintenance and improvement of the environment on City of Dieppe lands; provide suggestions for the protection and improvement of the quality of life for those who live or work in Dieppe, today and in the future.
Responsibilities
1. Provide suggestions for the development of policies, programs, rules and regulations that impact upon the environment;
2. Periodically review Dieppe’s Green Plan and establish and prioritize attainable objectives; comment on the contents of the Green Plan;
3. Provide a community perspective on services, programs, events and capital projects linked to urban forestry, climate change, green technology, energy efficiency and sustainable development;
4. Encourage the public to speak out on environmental questions, provide the mechanisms to collect these opinions and communicate them to City Council;
5. Consult environmental groups and other interest groups, accept their written submissions and report on them by making suggestions;
6. Support City Council by increasing the public’s knowledge on the City’s environmental policies, programs, rules, regulations and issues, through public awareness campaigns, public meetings, publication of papers and other communications modes, as deemed necessary;
7. Provide suggestions for the conceptualization, introduction and regular use of a municipal data bank which would contain information on natural elements, planning, development and socio-economic factors of the City’s environment, as well as on the state of the environment, including indicators on the subject;
8. When applicable, dialogue with other advisory committees in the City;
9. Create partnerships, develop and maintain good working relationships with other organizations working towards the same mandate;
10. Identify programs, policies and initiatives that could have significant impact towards improving the environment on City lands;
11. Establish and review on an annual basis a work plan that includes the committee’s priorities and objectives as well as the indicators of success;
12. Study and analyze pertinent issues as requested by City Council;
13. When appropriate, provide an annual budget request to the Committee’s City of Dieppe staff member before September 30th of each year;
14. Maintain dialogue with City Council on the committee’s mandate, priorities planning and successes.
Membership of the Committee
The Committee will be composed of thirteen (13) members
■ one (1) City Council member
■ eight (8) members representing the community
■ one (1) member representing the City of Dieppe staff (ex-officio)
■ one (1) member representing the Economic Development Corporation of the City of Dieppe (ex-officio)
■ one (1) representative from the Greater Moncton Planning District Commission (ex-officio)
■ one (1) representative from a high school or a postsecondary institution.
