Municipal Law Enforcement Service
On September 28, 2009, the Dieppe City Council empowered two officers responsible for municipal by-laws to act for and in the name of the council to ensure compliance with city by-laws.
As part of the new Municipal Law Enforcement Service, the two officers are responsible for patrolling, handling complaints, and carrying out follow-up activities related to making Dieppe inhabitants more aware of the by-laws passed by the council.
They will ensure compliance with all the city’s by-laws, including those related to unsightly premises, outdoor fires, dogs, noise, parking, construction, and zoning. There will also be a presence on trails, in municipal parks, and at special events.
The two agents will be easy to pick out thanks to their uniforms and vehicles, which will bear the logo of the municipal service for enforcing the law as well as their personal identification.
According to the Community Planning Act, the Municipal Act, and the Police Act, these agents have the authority to issue tickets, notices, and orders. Some of these tickets will be payable at Dieppe City Hall. They also have the right to seek orders from the Court of Queen’s Bench, to institute proceedings in the provincial court, to enter private property, and to issue notices related to dangerous or unsightly premises.
If you would like to report a possible by-law violation, please call the priority number immediately at 877.5026. |
