Commemoration of the 84th Anniversary of the Dieppe Raid

The City of Dieppe, in collaboration with the Dieppe Military Veterans Association, invites the public to a ceremony marking the 84th anniversary of the Dieppe Raid, on Sunday, August 16, at 1:30 p.m., at Place 1604.

This solemn gathering will begin with a military parade to pay tribute to the Canadian soldiers who gave their lives during this dark and significant chapter of our history. On August 19, 1942, the Dieppe Raid became one of the most important and costly operations of the Second World War for Canadian forces.

A tribute to our heroes

A total of 4,963 Canadian soldiers left England that day to land on the beaches of Dieppe, France. Among them, 916 lost their lives, and thousands more were wounded or taken prisoner. These soldiers came from all corners of Canada: our towns, villages, and cities. They stood up courageously to defend the ideals of freedom, justice and peace. That day, they became heroes.

The ceremony will be followed by a reception at the Dieppe Golden Age Club (445 Acadie Avenue). In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Golden Age Club at 1:30 p.m.
