Truth and Reconciliation: Dieppe to Host a Community Gathering

The City of Dieppe invites the public to a community gathering on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m. at Doiron House, located at 1150 Amirault Street. The event is being held to mark the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Open to people of all ages, the gathering will provide an opportunity to listen, learn and reflect. The program will highlight Mi’kmaq knowledge and create a space for dialogue on the impacts of residential schools and actions that offer hope.

“This gathering is an opportunity to better understand this history and its impacts on First Peoples,” says Isabelle Lavoie, a community officer with the City of Dieppe. “The initiative reflects a commitment to foster compassion, promote healing, and build and maintain respectful and meaningful relationships.”

Schedule

Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Mi’kmaq and Acadian food tasting

12:30 to 1 p.m.: Opening: ceremony and drumming

1 to 2:15 p.m.: Talking circle on the impacts of residential schools and actions that offer hope

2:15 to 2:45 p.m.: Craft activity

2:45 to 3 p.m.: Closing

The public is invited to wear orange in honour of Phyllis Webstad’s story. Her orange shirt has become a symbol of remembrance and solidarity.

Every year, September 30 is an opportunity to recognize the lasting impacts of the residential school system, honour Survivors, their families and communities, and remember the children who never returned home.
