How much has Dieppe’s population grown recently?

Dieppe’s population grew from around 28,114 residents in 2021 to almost 35,400 in 2024, an increase of over 20% in three years!

What are the challenges associated with the housing crisis?

Key challenges include inflation, housing and labour shortages, and rising home valuations, property prices and interest rates, as well as the transformation of our living environment.

What is the municipality doing to tackle the housing crisis?

The municipality it is working with various stakeholders to reduce the impact on residents. A housing strategy is also being developed to respond effectively to housing needs.

What is the City’s approach to densification?

Densification is encouraged to limit urban sprawl. It preserves green spaces and reduces infrastructure maintenance costs. High-density zones are identified in the Municipal Development Plan.

In addition, the municipality is currently developing an Urban Growth Strategy in order to identify the pitfalls of rapid growth to be avoided.

What are the target areas for densification in Dieppe?

The main areas include the downtown core, Dieppe Boulevard and areas along Amirault Street and Acadie Avenue.

How is the municipality managing tree-cutting in connection with densification?

The City does not cut trees on private land, but it regulates tree-cutting and requires replanting. Funds from our new tree bylaw are being used for replanting.

What are the housing construction forecasts for Dieppe?

Some 3,505 to 4,365 housing units will need to be built by 2033 to meet demand. Some 1,100 new units are in the works for 2024.

What is being done to ensure a sustainable future for Dieppe?

The municipality is using its Municipal Development Plan to guide growth responsibly, while encouraging densification and preserving green spaces.

How does the municipality plan to maintain residents’ quality of life during this period of change?

The City is working with stakeholders to ensure that all members of our community have a safe, quality home, while preserving and enhancing the quality of life of the entire community.
