We want to hear from you!

The City of Dieppe recognizes the importance of public participation in the decision-making process for the betterment of the community. That is why city council passed a public participation policy in 2014.

In fact, we have an interactive website where you can voice your opinions, brainstorm ideas and read information in a respectful and safe space. Go to www.dieppedialogue.ca now to learn of current and upcoming projects involving public participation.

Core public participation values

It has been determined that a decision-making process that takes the following values into account is more likely to be successful, adopted and sustainable in the long term:

  • Based on the belief that people who are affected by a decision have a right to be involved in the decision-making process.
  • Includes a commitment to the public that their input will influence the decision.
  • Promotes sustainable decisions by recognizing and reflecting the needs and interests of all participants, including decision makers.
  • Seeks and facilitates the participation of those potentially affected by or interested in a decision.
  • Takes into account the views of participants in the design of participation methods.
  • Provides participants with the information they need to participate in a meaningful way.
  • Informs participants of the impact of their input on the decision.

  CONSULT INVOLVE ENGAGE
Objective of public participation Seek input from participants on possible decisions, options and/or analyses. Work directly with participants throughout the process to ensure that their concerns and aspirations are truly understood and addressed.

Act in partnership with participants at all stages of the decision-making process, including the development of options and the final choice, i.e., have the public make the final decision.

The parties share responsibility for implementing aspects of policy, program or other decisions.

Our commitment to the public We will keep you informed, listen to your concerns and aspirations, and let you know how public input has influenced the decision. We will work with you to ensure that, as far as possible, your concerns and aspirations are directly reflected in the options developed. We will let you know how public input influenced the decision. We will rely on your advice and ideas to find solutions and we will implement what you decide.
